How love keeps us safer than fear đź’™

”If you can keep your love alive, then war and madness won't have the last word.”—Danna Faulds

It's common to initiate a martial arts journey from a place of fear. You are concerned for your and your loved ones' safety, and martial arts offers a path for self-defence. But what's even more common is to become so paralyzed with fear that you do nothing to alleviate it.

That's because fear is limiting. And it's addictive on a chemical level (notice how the media has leaned into this over the years). Fear often leads us to act—or fail to act—in ways that are downright detrimental to our safety. We bury our heads in phones, consuming fear and feeding off the adrenaline it provides us. We amplify it by talking and sharing without ever taking action. Our fight-or-flight system is always active, yet too overwhelmed to function as intended.

Instead of hyper-focusing on your motivation for self-preservation, try reframing:

I train in martial arts for improved confidence in my everyday life.

I practice because I love life.

I teach my kids because understanding their power helps them take responsibility and make positive life choices.

Because why act from a place of fear when you can act from a place of love.

House of Combat students perfectly exemplify this philosophy. As they practice Krav Maga and are presented with reality-based danger. Instructors and students co-create an environment that balances the intensity through human connection and friendship.

Neha writes on Google Reviews: I joined HOC for Krav Maga in September last year, and it is easily one of the best things I’ve done for myself. Joel is a fantastic teacher, very knowledgeable, so patient, and always building his students up. The class environment is always warm and friendly, and the feeling of community is strong.

So face your fears with as much laughter as fight. Live out the intensity in the dojo so you can relax on the street. Knowing you can protect yourself opens you up to more possibilities & greater trust so you can live your best life.
