Best Martial Arts School In Toronto
There are many wonderful fight gyms in the GTA. If you want to become a pro fighter, you should join one.
At House of Combat, we've created a unique environment offering the highest level of martial arts and self-defence training to a diverse community. Our students are healthcare professionals, engineers, lawyers, musicians, clergy, and business professionals, at every age and life stage. These are individuals who value being prepared, but perhaps more importantly, they value the positive impact this training has on their body and mind as they incorporate it into their daily lives.
This is training that protects and improves everything that matters to YOU.
It’s essential to understand that there truly is no best academy, instructor, or training style for everyone. It’s about finding the best martial arts school for you — aligned with your goals, values, and needs. Here are the top eight reasons 350+ students choose to train Krav Maga and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at House of Combat in 2025:
Training for Self-Defense
Our primary focus is training for self-defence. We didn’t just default to what’s popular. Our founder and head instructor studied over half a dozen martial arts over 30 years before deciding to specialize in two highly effective styles rarely combined at other academies: Krav Maga and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
Female-Friendly Environment
Female representation on the mats is key to a healthy training environment—its absence often marks a toxic one. At House of Combat, women and girls account for approximately 40% of our 360 students as of December 2024. Our Women’s Self Defence classes are highly rated and a common entry point, but girls and women also attend the co-ed Krav Maga and BJJ classes in strong numbers. We don’t just claim a safe and welcoming environment for women; the numbers reflect our commitment.
Transparent and Fair Pricing
We believe in transparency, which is why our complete pricing information is readily available on our website. Enroll monthly with no annual contracts, and enjoy a straightforward 14-day cancellation policy—with no hidden fees for registration, cancellation, or belt grading.
Scholarship Program
We established our scholarship program in 2022 to ensure that training remains accessible to everyone, regardless of financial circumstances. Since then, we have provided $50,000 in free training to those who needed it most.
Age-Appropriate Classes
Many schools combine age groups for training, meaning children as young as 5 or 6 might train alongside 12-year-olds, and 13-year-olds train with adults. This approach may be efficient in time and cost, but it can be frustrating and detrimental to skill development and enjoyment for students of all ages. We believe students benefit most when they train with age-appropriate peers, which allows both kids and adults to thrive both on the mats and as part of the House of Combat community.
Focus on In-Person Community
Last year, we made a bold choice to step back from our business social media accounts. We want our students to engage with one another face-to-face rather than through screens. This initiative sets a positive example and encourages our young students to forge friendships beyond the digital realm. We take the privacy of our young students seriously, refraining from sharing their photos and personal details on social media platforms. When you join us, you can trust that we uphold high standards of digital privacy and personal security.
Superior Facilities
We’ve invested significantly in creating a training space that is both functional and comfortable. Our facilities are properly heated in winter and cooled in summer. Large windows provide ample ventilation and natural light, and we use DAX tatami imported from Germany for the dojo flooring, with padded walls for added safety. We also have male and female changing rooms and private bathrooms.
Convenient Location with Free Parking
House of Combat is strategically located at the corner of Bathurst and Sheppard, ensuring easy access for students from both Toronto and Vaughan. With a large parking lot offering ample free parking and a bus stop right at the corner, getting to us is hassle-free.
We hope this information helps you identify what’s important to you as you search for a martial arts school that best fits your personal goals and values. Please contact us with any questions about martial arts and self-defence training at House of Combat.
